39-year-old Galin Petrov Stoyanov stabbed his 29-year-old wife Irina and their 6-year-old daughter Maria in their home in Madrid. After the double crime, he tried to take his own life by stabbing himself several times in the chest, neck and legs. He was admitted to Puerta de Hierro Hospital in Mahadaonda. The National Police has taken over the investigation, El Mundo newspaper reports.

The crime took place at 10.13pm on Sunday. The killer sent a WhatsApp message to several of his acquaintances that he had attacked his wife and daughter and that he was going to take his own life.

The friends immediately went to the house, but no one opened the door. They called the National Police, who went to the scene and managed to enter the home. They found the bodies of the woman and daughter in the corridor of the house and the wounded man in another room. The woman had stab wounds on her neck and chest. The girl also has several stab wounds.

The detained Bulgarian citizen does not have a criminal record, the headquarters of the Madrid police confirmed. The couple has been living in Spain for almost a decade, where their only daughter Maria was born six years ago. The family often travels to Bulgaria, where their relatives live. There are no complaints of abuse in the marriage, although police sources suspect there may have been episodes of abuse before the murder.

"Irina Spasova was 29 years old and worked as a beautician, mainly doing manicures. She was known in the neighborhood for frequently changing her hair color. Aside from that and their flashy cars—they had two BMWs—the family kept a pretty low profile in the neighborhood. From the outside, they looked like a model marriage," claimed the neighborhood vegetable vendor.

Galin Stoyanov is 39 years old, a mechanic by profession. "He was a very good man. He always treated us well. I don't understand what could have happened," says a family friend. "I could never imagine something like this happening."
